Our Mission

Our mission is to ensure that no one faces life’s major transitions alone.
Transitional Steps supports individuals and families navigating pivotal moments, from youth entering adulthood to veterans reintegrating, seniors adjusting to new levels of care, and families experiencing birth or loss; by providing structured life-skills education, emotional wellness support, and community connection that fosters stability, dignity, and long-term resilience.

Our Team

Nicole Renee Barboza

Nicole founded Transitional Steps from a deeply personal understanding of what it means to navigate life without a steady blueprint. After experiencing housing instability and the loss of her mother at a young age, she learned firsthand how pivotal life transitions can either destabilize a person’s sense of identity or become a turning point toward resilience, depending on the presence of support and community.

What began as a commitment to serving youth aging into adulthood has evolved into a broader mission: ensuring that no one faces major life transitions alone. Under Nicole’s leadership, Transitional Steps supports individuals and families navigating critical seasons of change, including youth entering adulthood, veterans reintegrating into civilian life, seniors adjusting to new levels of care, and families experiencing birth or loss.

Nicole brings over a decade of experience in philanthropic program management and leadership across mental health and STEAM-focused initiatives. She is currently pursuing her Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling with the goal of becoming a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), deepening her ability to support individuals and families through identity shifts, relational change, grief, reintegration, and growth.

Her leadership is equity-centered, trauma-informed, and relationship-driven. Nicole believes that when individuals are truly seen, equipped with practical tools, and supported within a community, they build lasting stability and strengthen the systems around them.
