Who we are

Transitional Steps is a community-based nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting transitional-age youth, with a primary focus on young adults exiting the foster care system. We exist to address the critical gaps that occur when youth transition out of care and into adulthood, gaps that often include limited access to consistent mentorship, workforce preparation, mental health-informed support, and practical life skills.

Our services provide coordinated, relationship-based support and include:

  • Life-Skills Education: Financial literacy, housing navigation, health and wellness education, and daily living skills to support independent adulthood.

  • Workforce & Career Readiness: Resume development, interview preparation, career exploration, and access to professional mentorship.

  • Mental Health-Informed Programming: Skill-building that promotes emotional regulation, resilience, and overall well-being.

  • One-on-One Mentorship: Consistent, supportive relationships with trusted adults who provide guidance and accountability.

  • Peer Support & Community Connection: Opportunities to build supportive peer networks and long-term community relationships beyond program participation.

What sets Transitional Steps apart is our integration of lived experience, professional expertise, and data-informed practice. Our multidisciplinary leadership team brings experience in health sciences, mental health advocacy, philanthropic program management, data analytics, and community development, allowing us to design programs that are responsive, measurable, and aligned with real-world needs. Through strategic partnerships and continuous learning, we work alongside foster and system-impacted youth to build stability, strengthen confidence, and support long-term success into adulthood.
